I was just wondering what's a good way to record bass drum...I've heard that you can put a condensor inside the kick to pick up that "click" sound from the mallets and then put a regular drum mic in front of the drum to get the deeper bass sound. But I've heard many different methods, if anyone has any ideas I'd like to hear them. Also is there a difference between recording single and double bass? Thanks....

Actually it's just the opposite. A dynamic kick mic inside as is typical and a large diaphram condensor out about anywhere from 3' to 6' in front of the kick. I've also put mics outside on the beater side of the kick aimed at where the beater strikes the head. The problem with that is unless the kick pedel is VERY quiet you'll hear it squeaking/working. I prefere one out in front about 3' and one inside.
