OK to use mixer as preamp?
is it OK to use a mixing board (soundcraft) as a preamp, or is there a significant improvement to buy a separate preamp? I have a line 6 flextone II that has a modeled tube preamp... anyone know about that?

most of the soundcraft boards have pretty nice preamps. stick with them unless you're willing to pay significantly more per channel.

Are you talking about a preamp for mics or guitars?

I have a Spirit board that I use regularily as a preamp (ven for multiple chanels) and it works very good for me.
I'd say stick with it unless you have $$$ to spend on a much nicer preamp. A budget preamp will sound the same (or worse, probably) than the ones in the soundcrafts.
