Young Group Needs A Break!!

My fellow musicians, I have been working with this Hip-Hop group (NUE SOUTH) for the past two years and feel that they may need more help than I can provide. I am an expert in sales/marketing but I don't know enough about the music business.

I have had the opportunity to put this CD in the hands of OutKast, Trick Daddy, and a few others, but no call backs. I want to know is this music good enough or is it maybe so good the record labels see it as competition for their mainstay groups.

Everything you hear was done in a homestudio with the final mixdown done in a full studio. Check it out and let me know what you think.

Yo MUSAC might wanna peep the rest... Mos def on TERROR IN THE SKY track. Slum to the bone tight to.

I'm feeling these cats. Remind me of a group called SOUTH CLICK. With more enegry... Some decent work here...

From what i'm hearing ya'll probably just need to get your weight up some. i'm seeing your artist got a good idea of the tone they want to set. Just needs a little tuning up to me. Make sure your cats are carreer artists (not fly by night bs). I think ya'll can do something (most cats can/could've). Push what you got and put that money back into the group. I think ya'll should do any and every show all the while keep recording. Focus hard on building a fan base. This cd is a good start for that. Put it out there... You'll probably still be broke (like me) but at least you got some ground to stand on.

The music business is still business. Only difference is that your product is not really something people need like that. You gotta create the want for it. If you put a steak in front of a cat and it looks good and smells good it'll make him hungry even if he ain't hungry at all. I know I want to hear the rest of those songs and if I had the loot you'd have my order. DOWN-SOUTH.COM is a good place to get some positive feedback on this i'd think. Post that shit all over the net especially in south supportive boards (but everywhere. Then go and sell cd's to old white ladies and all. You'll be surprised... EVEN I GOT FANS... HAHAHAHAHAHA. That's crazy to me... But I also know I'm steps ahead of where I was.. Ya'll shit bangs to me. It'll get better and people will like to grow with you. That's good business right there. Take what you know about business and apply it. Keep it moving.

I always hate when somebody goes around looking to get put on. Fuck a made cat... Fuck some I got lucky crap... Can't nobody do shit for you like you. Put balls on it... Get your weight up and they'll respect you when you come at em. At least recognize it's real when you bump into em. Might even come looking for you.

I've seen/heard way worse products being distrubuted. If you're gonna push it look into a small southern based distributor like SELECTOHITS.COM Selet-O-Hits... I fucked up and didn't get my second cd to em.

This is officially the longest post i've made....Where did that come from.

Musac - I thought about the mix when I was changing the format to MP3. I realized that if the listener doesn't have a subwoofer, it may be hard to hear all of the parts. Maybe I'll tweek it a little in Vegas and post it again.

If you get the chance to listen to it on faster connection please do! Thanks for the input

Lazi - Yo man I really appreciate the good words. Man your right we are broke. We printed 1000 CDs and most of them we gave away trying to get some action. We have performed in a lot of small clubs in town and have really had warm reception.

In fact everytime we go out we have a great crowd, but I guess we just aren't pushing hard enough. Hell we have even had George Clinton ask for some beats for his next joint, but you are giving me what I need.....places online where we can get our name out. I'm about to the point where I say f**k the industry and try to make it underground, on the indie circuit.

I have heard just about everything you've posted so far.......I'm a fan too!

I know that's right!!

The funny thing is, this was the first CD, we are four tracks from finishing CD #2 and it is better than this one. We are trying to go a little more mainstream this time. I know.....I know.......but a brutha's gotta eat!

Since the first CD we have picked up better equipment and use more live instruments. I'll try to put up some new stuff this weekend and y'all can let me know if you can hear the difference.

Hi-D-Ho, Thanks

musac - Thanks again and you may want to kick up the RAM on your home PC

There's a reason why you haven't heard many new dirty acts, because they're all interchangable. There's only a few that stand out in the crowd and have mass appeal (outkast, trick daddy(arguably), and ludacris, etc). Your guys don't bring anything new from what I listened to. Same played-out lyrics, same "I'm a drug dealer so buy my cd" attitude. People need to stop acting like their rich--it makes a person feel better giving $10+ to a struggling artist they believe than some haughty rich guy. My rant on the subject.

..but how do you really feel?

That's cool, I really think you will like some of the new stuff we are working on. I agree that the music you hear today is pretty canned, maybe we are guilty of trying to fit into the same mold as others, but I didn't think we were run of the mill. I posted songs that were more mainstream in sound, there are other songs on this CD that are more creative.

what kind of cologne is that.........
smells like jeoulosy
the south has a lot of talent that offers somethin completely different to the game a lot of soulful upliftin shit look at ceelo and the rest the goodie m.o.b. ,outcast, etc etc (cant forget field mob)
it does have a lot of shit that sound the same but thats anywhere because the game is so over satureated. the east coast has a million jay z's, the west has every one soundin the same especially in the bay but there is exceptions e-40,mac dre brother lynch hung(outta sac), messy marv, bullys wit fully's and more but a lot of cats havent seperated from their influences yet.
i dont care where u from u got niggas spittin that dope dealin shit,
and all that rich shit, but there's other music to choose from. just got to find what u like or bring somethin different and listen to your own shit

Like 50 cent..the way he raps is different(he got that style)... it aint only about freestylin or if you got off the chain lyrics they lookin for.. you gotta have HIT songs...

and Nelly he brought something different in the rap game wit his country sytle..nowadays you hear people sayin "herre" or "therree"..

I definitely am feelin what you guys are saying and the groups you are naming definitely have their own style, but how should we try to get in first before we break on the eclectic styles or do you think that is the way in?

Go back and listen to "Funkytown Interlude","Tip ME" and "Lyrical Fistfight" and see if they are closer to what you are talking about.

playa what it is ....is any time u somewhere that u from influences on music is is related to what every1 round your way is doin even when its different.especially in the bay area.
in the bay they give outa towners more spins more breaks more every thing. only shit in the bay that really give a nigga a break is murder dogg (right round the corner from the crib thank god) ,the funky chicken(chauncey always help out and do u right)80 west& 40 ounce records used to b 4 they moved, jus gotta see where they at now)every 1 else is on jay z's dick like 106.1 kmel and others but i digress. for what it's worth playa u want a break and u got some cash to hold u,hit the bay up throw out some of those copies u ordered up do some shows and network hard. in faifield you got ric roc he's a real cool dude and a good person to know.mike mosley in l.a. right now but he always in the bay and i'm sho he'd do somethin wit it(u can contact him thru ric)mike doin a whole lot right now creatin a lot of opppertunities for passionate indep. artist wit talent. check out ap-9
in the bay you'll see the independent game is so cool, it came from the bay.
it would be easier for u to jam your foot in that door.
try shootin a copy of yall cd to lou (call him first let him know you gone send him a c.d. and ask him to review it let him know whrer your from and names of the cats in your group)and ask him to review it .it's easier if you just go to vallejo and keep hollain at em

that will give u a little extra push 2 where u tryin to go
money or who u know or both is how u get in the game deeper
u got your feet wet its just about wadin out farther and learnin how to swim

musac - Man, I really appreciate your advice. Are Ric Roc and Mike Mosley DJ's? If so, what are the radio stations. I have a brother that lives in LA and maybe he can hand deliver them after I call. I really don't have the flow to go there, we spent the whole wad on the CDs hoping we could make enough to increase marketing......there went that plan

But your right, there are a shit load of groups down here and a lot of BS producers! We actually had a little air play in Houston, TX but we can't afford to go there either.

You do have your cd's in the local stores on consignment right?

Did you get at least 5 copies in any and every store you could find in your area? If so you should make the rounds in your spare time and sell the shit out of em while you are there. Sell to anybody... Everybody.... Cut throat tatics if it takes it.

Since ya'll are working on a new project then you should have have plenty of material for a mix CDR group promo. Take up a collection for the squad. Get a cheap 100 pack of cdr's (or 2)... Grab some tight songs off the cd, remix some old shit with some new beats, bust a couple of freestyle joints and interlude type skits, then drop a couple new joints on there from the new shit and put that shit out as a promo dis (cut everything short so cats feel they are missing something). Lots of name of the group calling and shout outs to anybody familiar you know, web site plugging and just letting whoever that grabs the free joints get familiar with the group. I can almost gaurantee you should make that money back on sells of the cd. Cheap cdr''s, a pack of AVERY 8124 (i think) adress labels, 2 packs of Office Depot cd sleeves... At the most 50 bones... Ask for any spare displays (at the store... they got em) and prop these up at your favorite (rap friendly) record stores. You make some fans and maybe get some more sells. More product for ya... Be sure to give the downest cats behind the counters a copy and shoot the shit wit em. You want em to push your shit. Average cat see's so much shit they gotta be able to identify artist mentality with the product to give up the support properly. Local consignment cats are for the most known to be bums on the promotion side. Don't be that. Those who aren't slouchy usually do good. SEE DAVID BANNER.

I'm digging the group on the real... Ya'll need to develop your shit (like everbody). I'm guessing ya'll got a lot invested...[b] DON'T DROP THE BALL. b/b]

We definitely have gone to every music store we could and got placement in two stores. They placed them but didn't want us pushing them in the store. It came down to them wanting a little cash on the side to promote us.

The other store dissed us; after we got the CDs in there, they said they were getting complaints from others about our CD being in there........yeah right!

I feel that you guys could make it with the right promotion--but that I wouldn't buy a cd because it'd be a waste knowing I could just turn on the radio and hear some ludacris and outkast.
