Need advice: track transfer from 1680 to HD24

Hi, I'm new here. I just got a HD24 and need to transfer some tracks from a Roland 1680 to the HD24. I'd like to keep the signal digital if I can. The main thing that I'd like to maintain is that I linked the 1680 to an SR-16 drum machine and want to keep that synced with the HD24. Can I simply run the optic out from the 1680 to one of the optic ins on the Alesis? Will the drum machine sync with the HD24? Thanks for any help in advance.
