424 to 488

On the info on the 488 on this site, Dragon says that the tapes made on a 424 can be used on a 488. Supposing a tape had 4 tracks on it, where would they appear on the 488? Would track 1 convert to track 1 on the 488, ect ect?
The reason I ask is that I have a 424, and if possible would like to rent/buy a 488 to expand the amount of tracks available to record extras, so as to save the bounce.
Any info would be great. Thanks!
