does it matter what mic cable you have as far as sound quality is concerned? Does the length affect sound quality ? What length cable do people generally use?

Wouldn't you want to use a high quality cable ??
10'-20' is a good length for recording purposes. |

Just stay away from the "bargain" cables,
a decent cable should be around $20.00 at least, although they sometimes go on sale for $15.00. the length souldn't matter on a mic cable, they are balanced and low Z which means you can run them for great disances without signal loss (example: the "snakes" used onstage at large concerts are 100-150 feet, plus the mic cable onstage) Of course some recomend Monster cables and the like, but don't spend that kind of money until you've learned how to hear the difference.

I use Monster cabels(I hope I can hear the differance!)
I tried the BLUE cables, pretty decent for the price, good place to start. 20' is a good length, with balanced cables the length dosn't effect the signal too much, that's one of the reasons for balanced cables. Good luck, Pete
