Alesis 3630

I have spent about an hour reading the trashtalk for teh 3630 compressor, and I have had some pretty good chuckles!

If the 3630 is so bad, what do you suggest for the same kind of price that would be an acceptable compressor?
I was just recently given an Alesis Nanocompressor, and I haven't used it yet.

WHERE???

Mister Q, where do I find this famed RNC, and what model do I want?

Who sells them? Can I get one from eBay?

Q, is it worth it at all to have the 3630?
I can get one for FREE. I've never had a compressor before, and I want to learn.

The 3630 would be your WORST choice as a hands on learnig tool
on compression as the unit introduces "noise" during comp'ing
applications!
The RNC on the other hand offers clean & transparent processing,
simple to use and affordable!
Yo' jimmy, if U utilize the "SEARCH" function of this BBS, you will
read a godzillian posts made by members here singing it's praises !!

Go for it!

FMR Audio?

The RNC is made by FMR Audio, right?

When I look for it online, that's what I end up with.
Anyone other than Mercenary Audio have these?

www.samash.com also carries RNC's (at least the NYC location does) but for some reason never lists the unit in it's catalog.

http://www.nowhereradio.com/artists/...=2270&alid=349

You kids!!! Always bad mouthing perfectly good and usable products just because you probably had a +4 signal running to it while it was in -10 mode!!!

Ed
Yo' sonus-my-man, remember the thread I started way back when
where I stated wierd bass efx can be obtained from the 3630 by
incorporating non-standard thresh & attack ratios? Or it's usefulness in some occasions controlling annoying "hiss" produced by drum machines? And givin' U madd luv on a funk track you recorded where U stated if I can tell the diff bet 3 songs
recorded using 3 diff comps? In addition, when U were disguising
your self as "Creepy"(LMAO )which U again stated that
the 3630 provides more than adequate bass-tracking processing?
Remember???
Yo' Ed-uardo, the majority of your comments on the 3630 always refer to bass or percussive compression rather than it's overall use on tracking altogether! Can U tell me what else U find the
3630 other than bottom? Sib ctl on vocs? Peak levelling on reed or brass? Shelving hi-end on screaming, distortion-filled git track?
U know I got big respect for you, but d@mmmnnn, the 3630???
It was my 1st comp and I would sit there from days on end experimenting with diff settings trying to find that right level adequate for recd'ing. Shoot, my 2nd comp, the Auto-Comm, gave me at least the beginnings of clearer comp'ing!
After cuzzin' Brucie-Blue-Bear twisted my arm on the RNC, I gave in and compared to the 3630, no contest & you know it Ed-die Munster!!! Again, big props to you as U and Long Wave Studio
are prob'ly the ONLY ones who can make the d@mn thing work!
But at least the AutoComm or Composer, comin' in at less than $99 or so less w/b a better choice than the 3630!

And don't U start bringin' up the Crane's 'cause even I know that they're above the aforementioned!

Peace, my brutha' from anutha' mutha'!!

Tell "CREEPY" I said Wassup!!!

Actually Q, I doubt I ever mentioned to use a 3630 while tracking.

In addition, I would like to hear you using it is cut high frequencies on anything (seeing's it doesn't have an eq on it!!!)

Tell you what though. Soon here, I will do some quick mixes on some smooth open sounding stuff where I use a Composer on the vocal, bass, and maybe keys, then do the same mix with a 3630 on those same instruments and post them both and let's see if you can tell which is which. How about that? If you get it wrong, you give me all your 3630's and one of your RNC's in your possession. If you get it right, I will fully mix and master 4 songs for you! To make sure I don't cheat on my end, we will have to find another HR member from Portland to oversee this whole thing.

I can't wait to get all your compressors.

Ed

You're on, but I gotta' better idea!!!!!.......................

If I can't tell the diff between the Composer & the 3630 (and remember, I got both of 'em ) and discover I'm wrong, how'za' bout U attendin' JAMFEST 3 courtesy OF ME!!!!!???? (I'll
HELP contribute to your cost of air-fare AND give to you PERSONALLY, my 3630 in it's original carton...details later!!!....I'll email ya'!)
But if I get 'em right, you master 3 or 4 of my crappy-ass songs!!!
I'm SERIOUS!!!!!(beware of the ear!!! )!.
Buttttttt, U gotta' tell me which track, instrument, etc has been processed and no throwin' in the Crane to throw me off!!! OK!!??

It's on now baby!!!!!! Bwa-hahahahahahaha!!!!LOL!!!!

Do you agree to stated terms!!??

sonusman, Q

Well I am not in Portland, but I am close enough in Vancouver. Right across the river in fact. If you would like, I can oversee this little experiment of yours. Let me know if you are interested. Of course, I am not that well known, so if you choose to not have me involved, I understand.

Curious to see if my 3630 could possibly be worth something.

If I get it wrong I'll master 3 of your songs? You cant really lose to much cause either way you get songs mastered. All this of course if Ed doesnt mind.

I havn't used a 3630 in quite a few years but I have confidence.....

That is cool. And heck, I will even offer up my 3630 for use if needed.

Thanks for the consideration.

Ed, No 80 series Neve consoles are allowed! You have to use a Mackie

I think QQ better start saving money to backfill all his compressors that he is giving to Ed.
