Smile Please comment on my music! Thanks!

Please comment on this Istrumental Rock track
Thanks in advance.

Listen to "A new tomorrow" at www.mp3.com/andrewthill

I played the guitars, bass, piano and keyboards on this CD. The rest was all done on MIDI and SONAR.
Equipment used: POD Pro, Ibanez DX320 guitar, Fender JP bass,
RNC compressor, JV1010 sound module, Maudio OMNI studio sound card, Roland PS1000 digital upright piano, Maudio monitor speakers.

I took the euqipment to a recording studio for the mixing part. Took 18 hours to mix 8 tracks(40mts).
The whole project took me one whole year.

some really nice leads in there!

the crash cymbals sound a bit too dynamic to me.. I liked the whammy parts a lot, but the other parts sound like they need something else.. Was this a POD?

Thanks! Yes it was the POD. You guessed right!!
However, these were routed and mic'd in a recording studio and layered over the original digital track to sound a bit more realistic.
Because it's MP3 and I have it sampled at a lower rate those cymbals sound oftel. But on my CD that cymbal does not sound that terrible. Good observation.

What do you think is missing?

I agree with sabbath about the cymbals....they sort a jump out and scrape at the ol ear drums. The solo's were rippin....I liked the sound....the drum break down at 2:59 and the drums for the most part seemed a little too mechanical. Since the drums and bass were so dead on rigid it didn't have much of a drive (maybe a little backbeat would help?)

Thank god people still keep AND use their whammy bar!!!!

I really appreciate everyones feedback? What do you mean by "back beat"? so next time I can do better.
And thanks for the compliments!

I will try to put a better sampled MP3 there....the cymbals dont sound as bad as it sound on the CD. Only thing is the file will get much bigger for people to download!

Maybe my use of the word backbeat wasn't the word I should have used.... the beat needs to be alittle more syncopated/varied. It's hard for me to explain. The beat you have is good/solid actual by definition "Backbeat"...when I say backbeat I mean variation in the actual drum timing that gives it a driving force. The drums and the bass were a little too quantitized...dead on. The song had some great guitar work that seemed quite varied/emotional when played but you then put it over a very sterile rhythm section. I don't know how to explain it...you just feel it. Sorry can't be precise in explaining what I mean but listen to an old funk tune and pay close attention to how the drums drive the tune.

No I think I understand what you mean. Thing is, the drums was MIDI, so it's a pain to pay too much attention to sound like a real drummer. I did what I could. Next time perhaps I might push for a little more effort to sound a bit more human.

As for the bass too, i agree it's rigid. I am not a real bass player and so I dont try anything fancy like I do on the guitars!

Thanks for the feedback. I will strive to do better on my next CD

Seems like each instrument has a different reverb, the guitar is in an arena and the keys are in my bedroom. If you're going for that heroic sound, I'd stick with the arena.

The synth voice is a little underwhelming. The guitar is a good sound, pretty hot but then when the keys take over it thins out a lot. I'd look for some fresher voices (and more of them) for a keys solo.

I concur that the drums need some help, but I like the bass, it's very up and happy.

Great chops, bro!!!Smokin Guitar whammy and tapping! Not crazy about the beats, too straitforward. No feeling to them.Like a Casio or a prefabbed loop. The song deserves a better more realistic drum track. There are many skilled programmers here.Good tune.

Nice work....I didn't find the bass to be too rigid but the drums definitely had a mechanical fell to them. next time....don't quantize them 100%. Just do a partial quntize so there is still some variation there.

Nice guitar worh BTW
