"Seasons Change" First song using my protools rig.
This is my first attempt mixing with Protools, Not the best, but I think it is OK for not recording anything for awhile. I feel like I don't have much time to do as much recording as I used to.
Anyway the song is called "Seasons Change" take a listen and give me some feed back if you feel inclined. Here's the link http://artists.iuma.com/IUMA/Bands/R...f/index-1.html Rich www.mp3.com/Richard_Bischoff

Man, this song just shows how unprofessional my recordings are.
Sounds really really nice to me, however i can't really give you a technical opinion... Only a "Average Listener" opinion. To me it might seem like the vocals are a little high compared to some of the guitar, except for the chorus. |

Thanks for posting some feed back oOCharlieOo, That is what I was thinking about the vocals as well. I was also thinking that for some reason, they arent fitting in with the rest of the song. I'm not sure if it is the effect on the vocals or what, but it is bugging me. Thanks for the comments.

I like the overall quality of this song, but the vocal sounds overcompressed to me tho.

Over compressing the vocals might be it. But how do I get a vocal to stand out or sound up front without compressing it? Any tips? Vocals are the hardest things to do right I think. Anyone have any good vocal tips?

I dig it. At 00.50 theres some distortion on the vocal. Im actually hearing at some other spots to. The mix is hypercompressed big time. If I were to look at the wave file Im sure it would be very black. I love the tune, its just mastered too loud. By the way...what did you use for mic and pres on the acoustics?
Thanks Justin |

No mix comments. Just very nice song and good recording of it. If Dylan and Dave Mathews had a kid it would kinda sou...no wait...that's a bit weird.
Anyway, cool stuff! |

Thanks for the feedback guys, I am going to try and remaster it to see if it fixes some of the distortion problems, and maybe less compression on the mix.
Musical5, I used and Oktava mc012 on the acoustics, into a Jomeek VC1Q preamp. I didn't compress the guitars much, thats probably why they are the best sounding thing in the mix. Rich

Telefunken:
About making vocal sticking out more, I am sure you can achieve it without overcompressing by using automation and EQing. I am no master at this, but try cutting some mid-highs off the guitar might help your vocal being more clear. Good luck AL |

Other than the obvious compression issue, I find the extreme panning of the right guit to be a little annoying as the track progresses. There are some places where I really like the interaction of the L/R guits (like when the vocals repeat "I'm running on time, running on time... etc., and I feel fine..."), but it's like the one on the right is just sitting in that ear the whole time, and after a while I actually turned my head to the right so that my left ear would get more of the guitar sound.
![]() For some reason, the one on the left doesn't bother me at all. Probably because it's mostly just adding some additional fill to the sound at tasteful times, not providing the main rythm sound. Maybe when the focus is more on the vocals during the verses you could double the right guit and put one track dead center... widen it out and keep it from being so "in your right ear." Just my buck-three-ninety-eight. ![]() oh... and I really like this soung. Nice sound, nice playing, nice vocals. Thumbs up and five stars. |

Wow, thanks for all the nice comments guys, I got a kick out of the if Dylan and Dave Mathews had a baby comment from SLuiCe.
Anyway I remastered and fixed some of the vocal distortion on this tune and will probably post it again in a few days. Thanks, Rich

Remix
Ok, so I added more vocals and I remixed this tune, but now I think the vocal maybe a little overbearing on the chorus. Anyway take a listen and see what you think, here is the link where the remixed version can be heard.
http://artists.mp3s.com/artists/274/..._bischoff.html please give me feed back. Thanks, Rich

I think mostly everything sounds really good, for the genre. This is a nicely written song...
I do think that there are some sibilance issues. The sssss's are a bit sharp and airy...try rolling some of the top end off... Also, the tom hits at 3:37 seem to be distorted. I noticed them because everything else sounds so nice and clean. Nice job overall |

WOW! What an excellent tune! Some of the best vocals I've heard on this forum! Actually the "only" comment that instantly comes to mind is the (GREAT) vocals are a tad too loud in the mix. And I'd like to hear a little more bass in the mix, but seriously you've got something here. If you have a cd of tunes with this quality, good catchy riffs, vocals, etc, you may want to let some people in the industry take a listen. Congrats!

Joe Recorder "Maybe my problem is I got my first guitar at Montgomery Ward's instead of Sear's........Joe"
Thanks man, I laughed my head off. My first guitar was bought from a sears catalog. A Harmony strat rip off. I wish I still had it. Don F. I have been mixing most of my stuff on the Roland 1880, this tune I ran into protools and did a little tweaking. Kelly5150, Thanks for comparing me to Don Henley I will take that as a compliment. Khompewter "Great job. Totally radio / album quality. Could see this playing out at any hangout in America. " Wow, I wish. I need to figure out how to market this tune. Blackburn thanks for noticing the tom hits, thats one thing I noticed that bugged me to. Remix, remix remix. "If you have a cd of tunes with this quality, good catchy riffs, vocals, etc, you may want to let some people in the industry take a listen. Congrats!" Homeuser, Thanks for the coments, Unfortunaly I don't have a whole CD of tunes like this. It seems life has become so busy that it is hard to get all the stuff recorded that I want to record. I have plenty of songs written, just not enough time to get them recorded. Thanks, Rich

sounds pretty much perfect from what i'm hearing on my monitors. not much to comment on. great song, great mix. this sounds professional to me. and i doubt it has all that much to do with the new rig, your stuff sounded pro before you used protools, so hats off. you've figured this stuff out for sure.
