do krk monitors suck?

I was thinking of getting some krk monitors but after reading this review I'm having second thoughts:

Blue Bear swears by them, but i have yet to find anyone else that likes them. Listen to them for yourself before you buy them. The mackies get nothing but praise though. If i could afford them i would buy them. Other than that check out the Yorkville YSM1p speakers. About a third of the cost of the Mackies and very very good.

My V8s certainly don't suck for my purposes - which is tracking and mixing.......!

I personally think Rowan had cotton in his ears when he did that review.... but then again - monitor choice is extremely subjective.... you HAVE to listen for yourself and choose the ones that work FOR YOU.........

YMMV.........

Seriously? Whoa... Ed uses the same monitors as I do...

You're used to the hyped highs/missing lows & dodgy low mid detail, then?

Actually (in my completely, no-nothing, inexperienced and newbie opinion). I had to completely agree with Blue Bear. I had a chance to listen to the krk V8's for about an hour at guitar hell screwing around with a mackie d8b, and comparing them to event 20/20bas, and I thought the V8's were more detailed and defined in the lower mids and bass than the 20/20's. Surprised the heck out of me too. The events sounded good, but seemed to be lacking in some areas. I was pretty impressed. I mentioned something about it in another thread that Blue Bear was raking some moron over the coals, but alas, i am thinking he did not see it.

i don't trust Rip rowan's ears.. only my own.. i mean some good monitors he gave sh!t reviews... the krk are great monitors. he gave them a F but the mackies a A.. sounds like he got paid from mackie on the real, b/c the hr824's are good monitors but not great...

the truths.. a D.. they should get a b or a c.. the main problem with them, is the copied design and the hi's.. they're very bright monitors.. but if you set them to -2 they sounds great and you can do some good mix's on them..

i FINALLY got to demo the KRK V8's the other day. they were sitting just above some gigantic Mackie console next to some HR824's (with the Mackie's being the "outside" pair). i listened and listened,..i A/B'd and i B/A'd. i came to the conclusion that the Mackies sounded a little BIG in the bottom,..and kinda velvety and cushy in a "sweet, chocolate cake" sort of way. the V8's didn't have quite the same thunder in the low end but,...much to my suprise,..the stereo separation sounded MUCH better on the KRK's, DESPITE the fact that the 2 KRK's were CLOSER together than the Mackies!! i could swear that i pick out "little" sounds in the stereo field better. it's funny,..the Mackies intitially sounded a bit easier on the ears,..but the more i listened,..the more i preferred the sound of the KRK's (although BOTH brands sounded VERY GOOD in general). maybe it's just MY ears (being somewhat "elephantesque" as they are ), but the V8's just felt a bit more suitable for me. they seemed a little "drier" (if that makes any sense),..but i feel like THAT might help me PLACE sounds and instruments in the mix little better. i dunno. just tossin' in my 2 well-worn cents here. cheers!
