magnetic8 is on a distinguished road
I own an MSR-16 and I need to know if i am getting the best quality out of it possible. It seems to me that there is a little too much hiss noise being recorded and I dont know why. I cleaned the heads. No difference. Im wondering if I need new heads. Dbx seems cool but it cuts out a lot of frequency.

Properly aligned dbx on the MSR-16 shouldn't have a negative impact on the sound. You really can’t get by without noise reduction with that narrow of track format. By the way, you have to record and play back with dbx engaged. If you record without it and try to play it back through dbx it will definitely screw up the sound.
