Question Help Getting Started

Just gettin started recording and i have a few questions of additional equipment i might need. I'm only making techno (with and without vocals). I'll list what equipment i have and what i'm getting, hopefully you guys can help me out with the rest.
What i have: emu xk-6 , fostex mr-8
what i'm getting: AKG 3000B, DIGITECH VOCAL 300, or some other vocal effects processor. Any info on monitors, mixers, and programs for computers would be great.

Looks like you need a lava lamp and a good bong.

Oi, Tex

I sent him here from the Fostex SCSI/ADAT cesspit with a promise of a more helpful response. And now look what you've gone and done

Did make me laugh though.

Better be a DAMN good bong to make only ONE lava lamp work in STEREO...

Oh, and the term "computer" means different things to different people - need MUCH more specific info, down to which sound card, processor, speed, ram, video card, drive(s), etc - If you're talking about software because you intend to use your 'puter for a DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) then you need to be VERRRRY specific with details.

Computers generally don't like to be told exactly WHEN they are to do things, so it takes some tweaking to get one to do REALTIME things, like audio and video. There are whole websites dedicated to just making this happen with no glitches...

Or, if you're rich, there's alway Carillon systems (tell 'em what you want to run, they'll build the 'puter, install the software, set it up, and send it to you, right AFTER you send them your firstborn...)

Monitors - 10 people, 9 different answers... Don't believe the myth that nearfields make the room un-important.

Mics - Ask Harvey Gerst. He isn't a Neumann snob, and if there's a mic that will get 93% of the way there for 12% of the $$ he'll tell you.

Mixers - doesn't matter, as long as it's a Behringer (did everybody wake up yet? Yes, my tongue DID just puncture my left eardrum, after going even further than my cheek) EDIT: Please insert the word "NOT" just before the word "Behringer", thank you... Steve

Technicly, you don't NEED a bong but it's hard to get around the lava lamp. I just roll fatties on my laptop but you must be carefull with the seeds as they are prone to roll into the keyboard and are a sonofabitch to get out. I do recommend if you opt for a bong, get a Chills (the best! ).
