Stupid WinXP question (and UC-16)

After installation of Windows XP, I coulnd't install my Evolution UC-16 USB midi-controller. I get this error-message: "The specified location does not contain information about your hardware". This is crap. It's the drivers downloaded from Evolution (also tried the CD to no luck). What is this?

According to Evolution Support it's my Security Settings that is set too high. "You can adjust the security settings from the control panel". Well... err... WHERE in the control panel? Anybody know? I already have Administrator rights...

First check that you have downloaded the correct driver. If it IS the XP (or 2K) driver than do this -

When you install the driver, choose the option
"Don't search, I'll choose the driver to install"
and point to the driver location.

That does sound like crap, but It should be found in control panel/internet options / security. I am in front of a pc at work and I think it is there. switch to classic view if you are not already.
You can also go and open IE and find it there: Tools/internet options/security and or privacy. Iam not sure what would help in these sections.

Yes, I have tried everything you've said, and still nothing...

When I plugged the UC-16 into a free USB connection, it did what it was supposed to do. WinXP installed it as an "USB Audio Device". So far, so good.

Now, I'm supposed update the driver and "don't search for a driver, I will select it from a list". Did it, choosing either the CD or the updated drivers on the harddrive (the directory) and nothing. AAAARGH...

Bullyhill, are you shure it has something to do with the Internet Security?

Try setting security and privacy to default

When pointing out the driver are there different o/s folders on driver disc. Explore cd look for path to your o/s.

Turn off virus software if on.

Is the usb device in device manager, right click / properties/ driver details/ is it there?

Try updating driver in device manager.

Uninstall usb device completely reboot , start loading driver again, make sure the update needs the old driver loaded, it may not, it may try it both ways.

If windows loads a driver first uninstall it first or shut off plug and play in bios and admin tools.

Yep, it's in the Device Manager under Sound, Video and Game Controllers (since it's registered as "USB Audio Device" I figured)...

De-activated the antivirus program. No luck!

Completely removed it, and it installed itself as a "USB Audio Device" again, even with PnP OS deactivated in bios. Well, it's supposed to do so anyway, so that works...
