Unhappy

.... it boggles the mind (my mind anyway). I'm new to wonderful world of midi and cakewalk. I recently purchased a now obsolete version (Homestudio 7)and I am having a difficult time getting sounds from my Ensoniq SQ-2 to be triggered?? by the software. This is what I've tried to do: I have attempted to play some of the sample cakewalk songs through the SQ-2. Is this not possible? Perhaps I have cable(s) routed incorrectly. Both the computer and the SQ-2 are running into a mixer.

Help me Obi-wan Kenobi - you're my only hope.

Check your MIDI Out from the soundcard is connected to the MIDI In on your keyboard. Also check you've got a decent (expensive) MIDI cable. Some of the cheaper ones (without opto-isolator circuitry) do not work at all with some setups.

Check the setup on your keyboard. You should make sure you have channels selected and enabled to receive MIDI messages. Make sure you're sending out MIDI on the same channel from the PC. It's no good enabling Ch1. on your keyboard and playing MIDI on Ch2. on your PC.

Basic things, I know - but necessary before we get any deeper...

I was reading the manual - is there anything under project options that I need to be aware of to make my SQ-2 be able to play?
