can anyone tell me how to "sync" a tascam portastudio (424) with cakewalk?

Hi KC,

Unless the Tascam has built-in SMPTE/MTC support, then you will need both a time code generator to stripe one of the tracks on the 4track, and a time code reader to translate the code into MTC (MIDI Time Code) so that Cakewalk can sync to it.

Sorry to say, I just went through that, you're going to have to drag and drop to get it to be synced. It's a pain in the ass, but YOU CAN DO IT!!!!Good Luck
