what is the best book to buy about mixing and how to use effects. Im not interested in a book that spends 3 quarters of the book talking about equipment. Does anybody know of a good one

Sure, you can fuck around and get lucky... but more often than not, you're going to run into problems that, to solve, will require your understanding of the equipment. I think it's easier to learn the equipment... and learn mixing by doing... than it is to learn how to mix (by a book)... then pick up the equipment as your mixing comes along. My 2 cents. Good luck!
