In submarine language, SONAR is an acronym for:
SOund NAvigation Ranging

Basically, a submarine sends out an acoustic pulse into the water that bounces off other objects and returns, thus enabling it to detect the location and range of other objects underwater like the sea floor, rocks, other subs, etc. The acoustic pulse is called a "ping" becase that's what it sounds like.

Thus Cakewalk's slogan for SONAR: "Get Deep".

Just watch "The Hunt for Red Oktober" or "U571" sometime. I personally recommend "U571" because you get to see Jon Bon Jovi die.
