Unhappy MIDI to Synth'd Audio - Stressed & Need Help!

I'm having trouble converting & listening to MIDI files. I've got tracks laid down in MIDI then I would like to apply some of the vast array of synth sounds but get nothing.

I've applied patches and selected various synth sounds but still all I get is the plinkity plink sound of the default MIDI piano.

What's up with that?!

Are you speaking of something like the Virtual Sound Canvas DXi?

If so, you need to first set up a new Audio Track. Then go to the FX box on this new audio track, right click and select DXi synth from the menu, and then choose the VSC (or whatever synth you want to use).

Now go back to your MIDI track and go to the Input/Output section. Under the Output box select the VSC synth as your output. Now go to the ALL tab on the MIDI track and choose a Channel (drums, I believe, must be on channel 10).

Now open the VSC and choose an instrument from the dropdown box that corresponds to the channel you selected on your MIDI track.

Click the play button.

Once you are satisfied with everything, you can convert the synth to audio by selecting both tracks (MIDI and Audio), mute the other tracks and use the Bounce to Tracks command. This will create a new audio track with you synth convered to a wave.

You do realize each track has to be on its own unique MIDI channel, right?

Unhappy expectations set too high?

dachay2tnr - I did as you described (actually did this several times before). The best I get is midi-piano sounding drums, bass and solo tracks.

I bounced my midi tracks to a new audio track (message at the bottom confirmed the action). Then I saved the new track as an audio file. When I played this new file back, I got the midi piano comilation of all the bounced tracks. Maybe I'm simply expecting something more than the product will do?

I can see how playing out multiple parts of a score on a single keyboard could be helpful but then to get any sense of realism, I guess you still need to have a full on synthesizer to get drums and bass lines.

Thanks guys...I suppose that I should have done my homework a little better before jumping into the purchase. Does anyone know if there is a product which will produce the kind of soft-synth capability I'm looking for?

Wink

...Well, I don't use HS 2002, but back when I used CWPA9, I had similiar problem, I just can't change the MIDI sound. No matter I checked the port, channels, banks, patches, all played the same damn plink plonk shity piano. I found the problem was the bank select method (Track Property). When I use my external synth, it set to "normal" by default. But whenever I assign the port to internal synth (Soundfonts, VSC, etc.), the bank select method should be changed to "Controller 0" to work propherly... Can you do that with HS2002 ? Hope it helps...

Thanks James...

I'm still a newbie but I'll see what I can come up with. Wierd thing is, when I play some of the finished demo's supplied with the HS, they sound really promising. I'm just wondering if the product is capable of doing this all by itself or if additional modules or hardware is required. I'll look into some of the "key-words" you put at me and see what I can come up with.

Thanks!
