Question Recording Vocals on the MR-8

Has anyone recorded vocals using the MR-8? If so, how did it turn out?

My own vocal recordings sound crap (partly because of me, partly because of mic). But I just want to know how to make the vocals sound better.

Any thoughts?

Hey KF!
A lot depends on what mic you're using are you on axis or off, do you use a pop screen, are you recording in stereo, also, are you too close or too far from the mic itself? Are you recording in a reasonably non reflective environment (i.e. not much "natural" reverb, it tends to clutter the sound)
And remember, alot of people will say that you need to buy an expensive mic, but technique will go along way in improving the sound you record.
Also, what are your expectations? It takes a long time to understand the dynamics and psychology of sound, it tends to be an ongoing process, with a learning curve that at times can be rather steep (luckily, it also tends to be alot of fun!)
You might want to go over to the mic BB and read some of the posts there, they have a lot of really neat discussions.

We got incredible results with a cheap Samson mic. There is no doubt that a great performance makes it much easier. I hope to post the results of our work (Tascam has a great thing on their site where PS5 users can share and collaborate on projects, I wish Fostex did the same...)

The singer I'm working with should be in Nashville, so I could probably use a Panasonic cassette record circa 1975 and get great results. When I record my own vocals (I suck) it's a constant struggle with EQ and effects to try to cover up what is essentially a bad performance. The MR-8 tells it like it is.
