Hello all-
I recently received an MR-8 as a gift. I am very familiar with tape based porta-studios but not with digital. As I see it, the MR-8 has no real onboard EQ, compression or numerous other effects. What would be my best choice for a computer based program to give me the EQ and other effects that I will need for mixing down to a master? The cheaper the better at this point. Thanks- Forestwind

Sound Forge and Cool Edit are two popular packages. Sound Forge XP is about 50 bucks - I don't know if Cool Edit still makes a low priced version. Also, check out Audacity (http://audacity.sourceforge.net/). It is an "open source" audio editor, so the price is right (free), and since it is built by users, you have a better chance of influencing the features as it grows.
It will be great if Audacity gets people behind it - a lot of Open Source stuff is crap, but some of it is better than competing commercial apps. |
