Studio furniture

Anybody know a good site that sells and specializes in studio furniture? Mainly console tables and stuff like that. Tables, chairs, stands.. everything. Thanks in advance!

Staples. Its an office supply store.
I actually got my current desk from there. Well, from Office depot actually.
I think I spent $600 on a corner unit and 2 long tables.

I priced out a corner workstation from Omnirax and a couple of other "studio furniture suppliers" then I started to check out the office supply stores.

I found a "computer workstation" corner unit with tables to the left and right (for my mixer on one side and my keyboard controoler on the other side) for 1/4 the price - ya gotta love Office Max!!! Even after building sound racks I was still way below the cost of "studio furnature".

Granted the Omnirax stuff looks "cooler" and it may be a little more functional (built in rack spaces, etc) - but I'd rather save a few bucks on the furniture and buy another mic (or processor, or more cables, or - well you know!!!)

that has had some DIY plans for desks and racks along with full blown room modifications. I found some good links earlier ths year.

I am contemplating plans myself but I need something to be able to lock all my gear (monitors included) from the reach of my wifes cats and our two kids BUT be able to open it up, flip it on and be recording in just a few minutes as I have very limited time opportunities to record.

Also just to complicate things I would like to be able to move it fairly easily for possibly going portable in the future.

The final criterea for my needs (to keep my wife from having a cow) is it has to blend in with the bedroom furniture. Not Thomasville but not particle board, plywood or black laquer either all for under $100-$200.

I built a flip top hutch/scroll desk that was stained to match the bedroom furniture but I quickly outgrew it and it takes too long to get my monitors out of the closet. Plus my recorder and mixer are above my "rack" so theres is no way to get comfortable seated in front of the recorder and mixer... no leg space.

I am contemplating building two new rack towers with a "desk" that will span the two towers that can be secured and removed. The desk will have "rails" on either side that can support a "lid" to cover the desk. The desk has to have a place to keep the monitors out of reach when closed but will allow quick desk top monitor placement at ear level. I just have the Mackie 1402 VLZ-PRO and a 4-track cassette for now but hope to get a DAW (Yamaha AW16G) or computer based system so I don't need alot of space.

With the two seperate rack towers and removable desk top they could easily be loaded into the back of an SUV.

If I can pull all of these features together functionally and asthetically there could be a market for this...... hmmmm.

You could always do what I do... Bring a picture, or a drawing of your ideal studio furniture to your local furniture store and say

"Can you get me this for this much $$$"

I have considered that as there is a local "Naked Furniture Store" ie unstained but ready to finish furniture furniture store.

However their prices are not much cheaper maybe (10-20% less) than the stained and ready to go variety and way more expensive than your particle board laminates at Home Depot etc.


But hey I can draw up the plans and give them a shot...I even thought about just having them cut the pieces and letting me assemble them as well.

We will see.

Why not check out the unfinished furniture secretaries ("naked secretaries" )? Put the monitors on the top; stow the stuff inside, open it up and there's a shelf. They'd be room for a Korg D1200, fer instance...

for the price of some studio desk(tables what ever you call them) you can go on the web site get the dimensions and build it for much less.. like omnirax.. one of their desk is like 1500, my cousin copied the specs built it himself and made it look even better, not to mention its stronger..and he didn't even pay $400
