Could anyone explain...

why none of the Cakewalks FX have any....eh....'arm'able parameters? (I'm talking about FX3 Soundstage, and the ones that come with Homestudio2002). I can understand it when the effects are made by a different company, but don't you guys think this is weird? Even WaveArts Trackplug has 'arm'able parameters! (like I want to automate compressor settings, hehehe )

Are you speaking of automatable effects? Ones where you can change the parameters as the song progress (more reverb, less reverb, more density, etc.)?

If so, these effects had to be specifically written to allow that feature - which I believe was not possible until DirectX8 was released. There are several effects supplied with Sonar that are automatable. These are the ones preceeded by Fx, such FxReverb or FxDelay. I don't know if these come with Home Studio or not. Even so, there is no compressor plugin.

Soundstage was released well before DirectX8 was released. I'm not sure if Cakewalk has any plans to rewrite it to allow for automation - or maybe there is some technical reason they can't.

The FX3 Soundstage plugin is quite new...I just bought it. It's very good, btw.

I guess if you just bought it, then it's new to you.

However, I got FX3 Soundstage packaged as part of Cakewalk Pro Audio 9 Deluxe over 2-1/2 years ago. I know a lot of people like it, but it never did much for me. Most likely due to operator ignorance though.

FxDelay and FXReverb are made by DSP-FX. They are not made by Sonar.

Hehe, I know...I didn't mean the two were related. Just though it was a relatively new plugin, as I've never seen it before...

They come free with Sonar. Don't know how much they cost standalone, but I would buy Sonar before I sprung for these alone.

However, to answer your question, they are OK. Not great, but not horrible. I end using them in many cases because they are automatable.
