Rack Light

OK, so my live guitar rig is a pod pro/power amp/tuner/power conditioner in a 6 space rack.

I have one furman with lights but i've never really needed lights in the front and they always swing out so I don't use that one in my live rig. My problem is I need lights in the back of the rack. I can never see anything back there when I'm rushing to set up my stuff on stage.

I've seen those dj style rackmount lights but they are colored and "cool" (and range around 50 bucks) i just need a simple white light to screw on the the back of my rack (rack rails on both sides) so I can see what im doing. any ideas?

Install your Furman unit in the back of the rack. Problem solved.

yeah i though about that. it will work but it will make it really annoying for running the chords around.

i may have to do it like that.

I mounted a bracket to hold a 2 AA Mag lite in the back of my rack. Comes in handy when you need to set up in the dark.

Littlelite makes a rack mount light. It can be easily mounted on the back of your rack.

You could buy a cheap under cabinet light or work light from a hardware or lighting store and mount it to a piece of wood that you could place in your rack. You could pick up some halogen pucks or a flourecent tube depending on the kind of light you want (both between 10-20$) All in all it shouldn't cost more than 30$ to do make it. If you have a blank you aren't using it would be even less work as you could just mount the light to the blank. It woulwd still need to be plugged in though, and I sense you probably want something battery powered. They make flashlights in all shapes an sizes so maybe you could find something that would work in a similar way (I would probably suggest using velcro as a mount for versatility)

actually, i'd rather plug it in. my power conditioner is right there. I don't want to deal with batteries. I'm going to go to the hardware store today and take a look.

If you do get a under cabinet or work light, make sure you get one that is either line-level voltage or has a transformer built in.

A flourecent light should not be a problem, but the halogens might need a large transformer which could complicate things.

I recently rackmounted my computer and put a light across the front of it that runs off the power supply of the computer. Now I am thinking of putting a light on my other rack. I don't gig with rack gear (yet), but I like the concept of a light where you really need it.

Samson actually makes a power conditioner that has a light in the back. Here is a link.
