I cannot hear my metronome at all in SONAR. I guess I need a MIDI device huh? But the Inca 88 has none? How can I get to hear the metronome in SONAR?
Keep in mind, I have XP Pro with no MIDI devices available and my Inca 88 is the only sound card. I use SONAR XL 2.1 thanks

I guess you need some kind of MIDI interface.
Then you're gonna need a drum machine or a keyboard or something similar. |

Yeah, the metronome in Sonar requires a MIDI device. However, there's no reason you can't use a DXi as a metronome.
You should have gotten the Virtual Sound Canvas (VSC) free with Sonar. So use that. Create one measure of a click track on a MIDI track and copy and paste it for the entire length of the song. Then patch the VSC onto an audio track and route the output of the MIDI track to the VSC. Voila, instant click track. Should take you less than 3 minutes to do the whole thing. You also can choose to use whatever sound you want - cross stick, cowbell, finger snaps, etc. etc. |

I haven't encountered a version yet that uses a wave for the metronome. It uses MIDI for playback. This is from the Sonar 2 help file. Quote:

Metronome??? Try this:
Set the tempo to 100 (or whatever) Set the meter (4/4. 3/4, 6/8, etc.) Do a 1 measure midi sequence. Record the hi-hat (Virtual Sound Canvas) on each beat. Quantize to quarter note. Save the song as something like 'default'. Now you've got a 1 measure metronome. Then, simply copy the measure and paste it with however many repetitions you will need for the song. This, of course, assumes you are doing 4/4. If not, then you'll have to set a different meter before sequencing. This works well for me. It is an extra couple of steps to take before actually starting work on a project but it's a small price to pay for such an excellent program. Whe the project is done, I will delete the metronome tracks to conserve space (but you don't really have to do this as the track takes up little hard drive space. When mixing down, don't forget to mute the metronome track or bring the volume down. PS: It would be great if Cakewalk would set up a mertonome a-la Cubase, though. |
