playback/recording volumes

hi. when i am overdubbing in cakewalk, the volume of the track i am recording is WAY louder than the playback volume of the rythm(?) tracks. i have them cranked on the console and on the win98 mixer, but can just barely hear them under the rec. track. iam running on a pent. 3 with soundblaster live value

It probably has something to do with the monitoring checkoff box in the Windows volume control...turn that off and control it only from Cakewalk.

dragon- thanks for your reply. i tried your suggestion, but then i got no sound what so ever. any other suggestions? thx
