external midi modules

ok all, i know i am probably overlooking something here, but here's my prob: when i hook my dummy midi controller from its 15 pin port to my joystick port, i am able to control the Montego II on board synth fine. When I use midi cables, i go from my midi out on my controller to midi in on my emu planet phatt. Then out of emu into joystick port via a midi to 15 pin adapter cable. What happens then?, I get nothing. I see no resource conflicts in Windows. I figure its prob something w/ selecting the right port, source or something, but my MPU-401 port is selected as my inpu device. Otherwise something with going thru the emu, but i know its receiving signal from keyboard, but i am wondering why soundcard isnt getting signal from midi out on emu. any suggestions?

OOps- thought you were talking about a controller, not a MIDI module.
That hookup sounds right for keyboard control from the EMU, but from CW, if you want to use the TB noises I think you need to use the MIDI Thru output back into the TB card instead.
Just a thought.
