Les Paul's Studio

Saw this over at another forum. These are pictures of Les Paul's studio. http://recordist.com/ampex/jpg/lespaul/

Thought some of the old timers might want to make some gear comments. Check out the white Les Paul Custom, the fore runner of the Gibson SG.

Cool

WOW,these are very cool pictures.

Les Paul hails from good ol' Waukesha Wisconsin.
We should regard him as the Jimi Hendrix of recording. He's sooo much more than a name on a guitar.

I'm not quite that old. Studio? That ought to be a museum by now. That's some old stuff.

I was looking at the studio console photo. It makes me feel very fortunate to have the meager equipment that I do.

Thanks for the link. That was very interesting.

!

Les Paul was way ahead of his time. In the picture of the console there is a CD rack on the right.

Maybe its just the intimidation factor of things unfamiliar but that gear looks like it would be more difficult to use than what we have available today.

Legend has it that when he lived in Ney York (actually NJ I think) he'd have musicians over for after hours jam/radio broadcasts on his little illegal 'radio station' he made into a transmitter from reciever parts. Never got caught.

I was a real little kid when 'How High The Moon' came out but I can still remember how clear and crisp it sounded. It made the radio sound better, the guitars were amazing and Mary Ford's voice made all the other singers sound like they had a mouthfull of walnuts.

He used Webcor recorders in those early years I think, lots of 'em linked together. He got sound out of 'home' equipment that studios couldn't even dream of. Les Paul changed everything in recording.

Great Pictures! And YES...he's still alive.

FYI...Les Paul was born Lester Polsfuss...wouldn't that look cool on the head of a guitar?!

Yeah...I'd say Les Paul did just a little to help create the hobby we are all being (eternally) consumed by.

As an inventor, Les Paul is credited with creating sound-on-sound, over-dubbing, the electronic reverb effect and multitrack tape recording...Oh yeah, and the electric guitar.

ALBERTPIKE has a little shameless behaviour in the past
See Les in NYC at the Irridium on Times Square

Saw him last year. As well as being a great guitarist and techo genius, the guy is hilarious. Audience in stitches all night. Well into his 80's or 90's! Thanks for the pics!!!
