A question to the learned.........

I recorded a few pieces of music almost two years ago and mixed them using computer speakers (this is long before I got a set of KRKs.......) and the music sounds great on computer speakers.....great using headphones....great on my Onkyo suround sound system....great on the car stereo.....
But, ......when I play them through the KRK's....they sound like dog poop.....

I no longer have the original tracks (my ex-wife has more than likely deleted all my stuff by now) and I am wondering if there is anything that I can use to go into a bad mix......and try and fix it....

I guess I should just try to re-record....but, I really am curious to know if there is anything at all I can do.

I use Cool Edit now....

Any suggestions, other than re-recording, would be great...

Thanks,

I hate to say it, but if the current mix sounds like poop on your monitors, just make sure the vocal track sounds like poop too and you might be alright.

Just do a test listen on all those systems you mentioned. It might turn out after all.

It takes a certain amount of time to "learn" any new monitors. The question is, how do reference recordings (commercial CD's) sound on your KRK's? If they sound like poop too, then clearly it is a matter of your ears not being used to them.

No, this is not the case...
Commercial CD's sound stellar on my monitors....for the most part....depends on the engineer.....ya know?

Even the new recordings that I do sound good on the monitors....

it is just a case of a bad mix with no originals to rework for these old tunes........

I will have to re-record...

Thanks though man..
Joe

I think there is a lot of wisdom in this statement. It's at least worth a try before you take the time to totally retrack everything. If this tune really sounds great on everything other than your monitors, then the audio is still good, so add the vocals and get them to sound as "poopy" as the rest of the song and when you mix it down they should sound as "good" on your stereo as the original material. You may have to go back and remix the vox once or twice to taste, but it would still save time over re-recording all the parts again.

I think it's worth a shot at least....

Well...it sounded logical to me.

The new vocal track is going to have to sound like poop through the new monitors to get it to sit right in the old mix.
