Cool Tricking out a bass

So i was on ebay just looking at stuff, and i happen to come across a "thumb rest" for a bass guitar. now, it said for a p-bass which is what i have. but, im holding my guitar looking at it right now, and no where on it do i see a place to stick a thumb holder. also, is there any other kind of like things i could put on my beast to make it more beastly? more "tricked out"

The older (definately pre-CBS, I'm not sure how far back) P-Basses had this thumb rest. If I remember correctly, it was mounted right along the pickguard somewhere above the pickup. Really, you can mount it anywhere that is comfortable for you. The first model had it mounted [i]below[/] the pickguard. It was intended to use as a finger rest while you plucked with your thumb.

To trick out your bass (P-Bass, I assume) this is what I'd do.
1. Pickups. These obviously make a big difference in your sound. Even if you are happy with your p-pickup, a jazz pickup by the bridge can add some snap to the sound.
2. Tuners. Depending on the model of bass, some really nice low ratio tuners can help keep the bass in tune and make tuning a bit easier.
2.5 (addition here... ) A bridge (?badass 2?) can improve the sustain and tone of your notes.
3. Electronics. Once agin, depending on the model, a new set of pots, wires and jack can ensure a long life and make sure nothing breaks mid concert.
4. Straplocks. I don't know how you play, but some straplocks let you get as crazy as you want to without worring about dropping your baby.
5. Appearance. This is up to your taste, bigtime. You can get pickguards in any color/material, and it can really make your bass stand out. Also, new knobs are kinda cool. I find that one sticker/vinyl decal on an instrument looks sweet, if you are into rock/metal/punk. Too many is blah, but if you have a black bass, a silver decal of something cool (8-ball, a phrase, band name, etc...) looks pretty sweet and tricked out.

Sorry about the length. I just gave myself some ideas on how to customize my own bass!

Talking THANKS!

So tell me more of these strap locks....I wish to do the flip the bass around the back move lol and im afraid of it falling off and flying like an arrent lawn dart into the crowd. thats the last thing i want. i mean, screw the people, think of my bass! ive been looking around for a pickguard....i found a cool black and silver tortise shell one *my p-bass is black* and it would look cool, well i got outbid for 50 cents, i wasnt too happy. so im going to keep looking. as the for stickers, i might, just might put a few on. where do i get this bridge thingy at? isnt that the thing the in back where you stick the strings in? does the pots, wires and jacks make that much of a sound difference? what about the tuners? how do i change those? lol thanks
