Studio building plan ideas welcome...

Hi everyone,
I am a long time reader, recent poster of this forum, who is in the midst of putting together a "New Structure" studio building. I've had your typical basement studio biz for years, but now we are going to the next level. (wallet is quivering!)

So here is my question & situation. Does anyone have any suggestions or plans/ideas they would care to share. I beleive it's better to ask those in the know, doing research - no reinventing the wheel here. I also will be visiting some local studios to get more ideas.

Here are the dimensions - 24' x 48', on concrete slab, most likely
10' ceiling height max...

Rooms wanted -
Control
Main live
Vox Iso
Possibly Drum Iso
Bathroom

Thanks for any thoughts you may have,
Once we have some solid plans, I will post em.

I am building this (attached) studio right now.
I'm in the very early stages, forms are being set for the foundation as we speak.

The nominal dimensions of this studio are 30'w X 40'l X 10'h.
The height actually varies from 10' - 14'.

It has a
Control Room
Tracking room
Vocal Booth
Drum Room
Bathroom
and Kitchen

Note the addition of a kitchen!! very important if you want to heat a pizza or make a coffee. Plus you must have a fridge unless you want to drink warm beer like the poms

cheers

Thanks for the input Michael, I really appreciate it.
That is a very impressive layout. I hope it
goes well! I already am thinking of changing my
buildings dimensions after seeing your layout.
I like your 30' width better than 24' we were looking at.

We can change our dimensions easilly since we are
purchasing a building kit for the main structure,
which is actually cheaper than if we
build it ourselves- (inlaws are custom home builders).
I will be pouring my own concrete slab, and finishing
the whole thing ourselves.

Have you ran into any difficulties with getting permits?
Thats my next hurdle to jump. We live in Oregon near Portland
and the local counties are a joke to deal with regarding
building permits. At times worse than congress.

Happy building!

Obtaining a building permit is going to be different from city to city.

I'm fortunate in that I work as a civil engineer, and obtain Development permits, based on my designs, all the time. SO I know the people in building inspection and development regulation.

The key, I think, to obtaining any permit, is to make sure your plans contain ALL the required information before you submitt for the permit. Your local BID will have their own criteria for submittal, obtain a copy of it.

Get to know your plan reviewers. Go down to BID early in your planning processs. Talk to the reviewers, remember their first names, show them what you want to do upfront. Make the reviewers feel like they are part of the solution, and not an obstacle you have to over come.

If you're nice, they might remember you come review time.

If you're mean and nasty, they'll definately remember you!
