My Layla card has 20bit D/A conversion.

Cakewalk has the option of recording in either 18 bit or 24 bit.

Which one should I use?

Any recommendations?

Red face

I believe you mean 16, not 18. But anyway, since you can't actually get 24-bit resolution, recording in 24 bits will simply waste disk space IMHO.

check out events site for the driver that supports 24 bit and download.

Hello,

I have the same setup. If you want to take advantage of the 20-bit converters, set it to 24-bits. If you need to save disk space and/or don't care, set it to 16-bit. Layla "writes 24-bit words" as everything internal is 24-bits. It steps up the bit rate from 20 to 24-bit internally to reduce data loss (that's what they say anyway). And most plug-ins process at 24-bit anyway. I use the 24-bit personally.
