Question for John about corner control room
Hi John, just a couple of quick questions...
1)I've been going over your most excellent designs, specifically, the corner control room back corner: Now, I get the idea of the bass trap in the extreme end of the corner, but what about the rest of the back corner walls? It's a pretty big corner, so I was wondering what kind of treatment should be there... Should it be a slot resonator? 2) What kind of treatment on the cieling? Specifically, over the mix position... Should it abosorb, diffuse, or both? Should I just go cloth covered insulation over it, or would you reccomend something else?

these are just generalisations - I'd need to see the whole design you have to be more accurate. cheers john |

I was wondering about a diffusor in front of the trap! As for the cieling/floor combo, what you're saying makes sense. I haven't got a design yet, but I'm planning on applying your "corner control room" plans to my 20 by 24 foot space. One final question: Your plans call for soffit mounting the monitors. I understand the principals involved, and it seems like a good idea. However, I have nearfields. (KRK V8's) I thought soffit mounting was reserved for mainfields.... could I get away with mounting these? thanks! -0z-

I'd build the soffit mount but make the speaker section large enough to expand to a full mains system. Then make a smaller speaker mount inside it and try your KRK's out mounted.
