Smile Triton/Fantom/motif/karma workshops

I am interested in getting one of the above mentioned synths. However I am unable to ascertain if I realy need it. Currently I have a Roland JV1010, a Roland piano with MIDI. I sequence using SONAR.

Does anyone know if there are any workshops offered to tell us how useful these synths might be? After all I could simply get a JV5080 can't I and use with SONAR?

What are the true advantages of getting an expenisve synth? What will make it better than my JV1010/SONAR combo other than better sound effects?
Any feedback will be appreciated.
Thanks

The advantage of getting an additional synth, expensive or not, is enlarging and customizing your sonic pallette. Don't pay for what you don't need if you can help it, that is, buy a rack unit if you don't need the keyboard for a controller and/or a sampler (for example).

Workshops are probably not a good place to form opinions in your case because they will all only profess and illustrate how great (to the manufacturer) the respective boards are. You already know that. Now, if you're looking for a certai feature set or something, then maybe they'll be worth your while.

If a 5080 will serve your needs sound wise, then it's just the synth you need. The motif rack may be out in the spring (i'd guess late summer or fall) and is reprtedly gonna go for about 800 bones. Cheap AND cool. Of course, the triton rack is already available. I'd buy a 5080 before I plunked down loot on a fantom, personally.

You should probably idebtify exactly what types of sounds you've got a hankerin' for, and let that be your guide for your next synth.

But what the hell do I know, I'm just another secretly admired, yet publicly despised turntablist. Anybody wanna battle?

Good luck,

Smile

THanks!
I will research into it. The XV5050 go for $700.00. Another $400.00 and I can might as well buy a used Triton or something.
The XV 5080s go for $1999.00. HolyMoly!!!!

I can hardly wait to put my hands on a cool synth....it's muth watering...
