20/20 etiquette.

The Event 20/20 PS8 studio monitors. They sure is swell!
My questions are simple. How do I treat the twins right?
Is it recommended to use them right side up or on their sides (tweeters on the inside)?
Also, They have two inputs on the back (XLR and 1/4"). If I plug a Digital multi-track into the XLR and a small 8 channel mixing console into the 1/4" (on the back of the SAME speaker) but I send the speaker only ONE signal at a time, is that alright?
P.s. What would happen if I sent both signals (output from the 16 track and putput from the mixing console) at the same time?
I know I could find out for myself what would happen by just hooking it up and trying it, and perhaps it would be harmless, but I just spent way too much on these jammies to just treat them like step children.

You can use them either way, but if your going to lay them sideways, the tweeters should be on the outside.

As for the inputs. If your Multitrack has XLR outputs, use those. If not, use unbalanced outputs from your mixer into the 1/4" inputs.

Why do you want to use both? I would maybe find a way of routing what ever this other signal is into your console, and then out to the Events.

Email Event though, and see what they have to say about using both.

I just wanted to use both because I just wanted to send pure sound straight from the D-16 to the speakers, not through any console, (my console at least). This would be for mixing reasons only and I don't want to dis-connect each time.
Also, I e-mailed Event about the positioning of the speakers as well and they said Tweeters on the INSIDE!? This differs from what you said earlier, which is better? Any reason why? Thanks a lot.

I don't know why they would say tweeters on the inside... Maybe they made a mistake.

Here is a quote directly from their website:

"I'm concerned about getting accurate frequency response. What is the proper placement of the monitors in my control room?"

"As a rule, the two speakers and the listening position should form an equilateral triangle, with the sides of the triangle ranging in length from four to six feet. Notice, too, that the 20/20bas speakers are identical. Either speaker can be used on the left or right side, and the speakers can be used with equal success in the upright (tweeters on top) or side (tweeters pointing outward) positions. Avoid placing the monitors in corners, against walls, or on surfaces that physically couple to resonant objects, as these situations can alter the low frequency response."
