Recording Onto Keyboard

I've seen a few times people taking a sound with their microphone and then inputting into the keyboard and then they can play the note and the sound they recorded plays.

Is this for real? How can someone go about that?

It is called a sampler.

And you'll need keyboard that can handle sample. Some comes with bundled sampling system, others comes as an optional.
