Early Sound Scattering

I got an interesting link in the Acoustics Yahoo Newsgroup about something completely new for me: "Early Sound Scattering" (ESS).
The idea is to diffuse your sound from the monitors as soon as they leave the (soffit mounted) speaker.

Thanks for the link Herwig. So what he's saying is that if you build a 70's style room with a diffuse front end you will have the ideal monitoring setup, anyway that's what I get from the pics.

My concern is the radiation field from the monitors especially in the high end is narrow (30 degrees typically) so I wouldn't expect that much high end diffusion anyway. It may work in the low end though.

What's actually interesting is the statment that rooms where this design is applied would/should sound similar... I'm sticking to the good ol' fibreglass for now
