Is your volume control all the way down when you do this? It should be. But since you say a small thump, this ain't a big deal. These babies can handle 150W. They could create a thump that'll unseat your dentures without damaging the speakers. Still, it's always a good practice to turn down the volume before
powering an amp that's connected to any speakers.
