Wink

I bought a Yamaha CD burner to use with my VS 1680. The problem is that connecting the CDR to the Roland with the SCSI cable isn't allowing the Roland to recognize the Yamaha - is there another way to burn CDs to this drive (is there another method of hooking it up) or do I need to buy a roland CDR?

ROLAND & CDRs

I have a VS 880-EX and the Roland CDR. Despite the hideous track bouncing problems with the 880-Ex, I have to say that making CDs with it is a breeze, (just connect the two units with SCSI and press a couple of buttons. And the sound quality (assuming you have recorded/used quality sounds) is excellent.
I was told by a music dealer recently that because Yamamha & Roland are such huge competitors, attempting to combine some Roland units with Yamaha units may be problematic. The Roland CDR for example will search for a Roland recognition chip (not the right word, but you know what I mean) on the other end of the SCSI say the Roland 1680. If it finds a Yamaha chip instead it will be pissed and refuse to co-operate. Sounds like you have a similar problem. Email Yamaha and complain. Maybe they will give you a solution. I am thinking of of upgrading to a 16 track multidisk. I'm kinda stuck with a Roland because I don't trust the Roland CDR to work with another company's product. At least not without a hassle.
