The specks are most likely dust in the air. Dry wall is simply dust smashed into the shape of a wall.

I was in there last night (with a mask on) sweeping the place out. Nothing like a mix of sheetrock dust, sanded sheetrock mud, insulation and whatever else for the lungs. We're in the middle of mudding/taping/sanding (especially sanding) right now. I hope to start installing the suspended ceiling framework in the live room this weekend. I can't finalize what I need for AC ductwork until this is done.
