Hi guys,

I'm thinking of nuying a Boss Br-8, so I would like to have some reactions about your experiences with the machine. Does it sound good? the Effects ok? No problems with Midi synchronisation? And how about the zip drive?

Thx

I use the VS1680 but my brother has the BR8.
He loves it. The only limitation is 2 inputs max at a time. That's not so limited if you only record stereo or a max of 2 people.

Hi Brett
I believe one of the other major limitations of the machine is that of data back-up which currently requires zip-disk swapping. From a review I read, this can be almost an unacceptable number of swaps for a fairly average length piece of work (5mins). I seem to remeber the figure of 100 swaps was bandied around. Don't know if tru, but might be worth asking your dealer the question.

As a shaved down 840, it's pretty good, and it has some interesting features for guitarists particularly. As a veteran 880 / 1680 user, i can highly recommend the vs / br concept, but i might be tempted to look at maybe a second-hand older 880, which are now phenomenal value and have scsi as standard.

hope this helps, email me direct if you have any questions

Thx for your reactions... Everywhere I hear the same reactions. Great machine, but the zip drive sucks. I'm a bit of a newbie, so how many minutes can you put on such a zip drive? And how does this 'swapping' when making a backup work?
