HELP!! Recording to Computer

Right here is the deal:

I've got Cool Edit Prop 2.0, but I'm a bit lost as how to use it.....
What should i do and what do i need to record Guitar and Bass parts?

I heard you can buy a cable that link s the amp to the mic input of my computer, but i don't knwo if that is reliable.

Basically someone please tell me how to record gutiar parts onto my computer so i can put them on Cool Edit Pro and mix them down.

Also: I was planning to record the drum parts by getting a splitter, 4 mics and setting them up round the kit to a record a fuller sound, will this work????

To record your guitar to PC... well that's vary to how you route them and what about your gear. But let's make it easier.
For the most simplest way is to plug a jack to your guitar, and plug it to your mic input. Select the recording source in Windows mixer to accept incoming signal from mic iput, then hit the record button on CEP. There you go. BUT wait a minute..., you'll get verry crapy sound. So let's see if you have a better option. Do you have any preamp ? If so, then plug a cable from your guitar to preamp in, then route the preamp's output to LINE in of your soundcard. Select LINE in as a recording source in Windows mixer, hit CEP, record... That's for basic. Ditto with bass. Is that it ? no... you'll need to adjust the recording level etc (again in Windows mixer), to avoid getting a distorted sound (too high) or weak signal recorded (too low). By the time you develop and realizing that the sound ain't done so good... there's tons of way to make it better, but you'll need better gear / equipment. Amps, Mic, Mixer, Preamp, FX, etc...

If only you post a better info about your gear, what you have, what's your goal, what kind of guitar sound do you work on, what music, what soundcard, what...

Generaly you'll need :

Guitars --> Amps --> Mic --> Preamp --> PC (line in).

Nope, you need a mixer. You can split audio cables but you can't (effectively) combine them.
