I've been looking at some technical lists of some big time producers in the dance scene, and they have this:

ROLAND JV 1080

I'm no expert, but how the heck is that a synth??? Isn't a synth so post to have keys, and sounds, and what not. I know peolle say is great, and blabalbla, but will someone please explain me how 'a box', because thats what it looks like, is a synth???

It's a module. Think of it as "synth brains" in a rack mount box. Just plug any midi keyboard, which pretty much covers eveything in the last 20 yrs, into it, and there's your keyboard. Just about all synths these days that come in a keyboard version also come in a rack version... Same thing. But some, like the 1080 come only in rack version.

If your looking for a "dance" type synth, look for a virtual analog synth. The 1080 is sample based. All the coolest sounds (almost) in dance music come from VA's like korg ms2000, Access virus', Novation's, waldorfs and nord leads.
