I've used the Alesis and didn't like them at all. I have the Yorkville passive YSM-1s and they're VERY usable. Just my own experience. Plus the service from Yorkville is very good.

Around here lots of folks have/use/like the Yorkvilles. Just to confuse your choice, I have and really like my Fostex PM-1 pair. They are wonderfully flat and uncolored. I took my own mixes to the store and listened - if possible, that's what I would recommend to you. What monitors reveal your music best to your ears? Thats a question only you can answer. BTW, around here I couldn't find any stores with the Yorkvilles in stock, so I did not compare the Fostex to them head to head. I did compare them to the Alesis and strongly prefer them.

Ahh, back to Yorkies. Yes, I have a pair of the passives. Certainly the Yorks are not the best but for the money they are very good.

You can get Yorkville on line and they will direct you to the closest dealer.

As mentioned, trying and listening before buying is the best way to go.

thank you all for your input, but i have made my choice. well, no, my choice was made for me. they were all out of the alesis. anyways, yeah i was pretty much set on the yorkvilles.

id go into explanation on what pair sounds better to me, but that is pointless.
