Don't most college radio stations just transmit to hayfields within a 3-mile radius of the campus?

I actually have a friend who works for a pretty big promotions
company in Boston and she started by promoting almost exclusively to College radio. It's a great market because those kids are a bit more adventurous in their purchasing. They take more risks on unknowns usually. So, in a way, you're right Geekgurl but those three mile circles buy a lot of CDs. If you're a new relatively hip act, you got achance with that crowd. Another reason is college radio in cities with music snobs. no one listens to real radio to find new bands. college radio has a reputation of producing the chic new acts. I know many of the chicago music snobs listen exclusively to the Northwestern and Loyola radio stations for that very reason. |

college radio is pretty huge since commercial radio has taken a huge dive in quality.......many will say it tooka huge dive in quality a long time ago.............i agree that it has been getting bad for a long time now, but it's definitely taken it's biggest dive in the last year or 2...........and some will say it's the record labels fault............definitely one of the culprits.....also the fact that most stations are owned by clearchannel has a lot to do with it i'm sure
this is the end of my post |
