Is the star spamming just a way to boost a post count?

....sorry to drop this in here. But shit..... could the dick who's trying to raise his post count go do it somewhere else? It would be nice if the stars in this forum "could" mean something.

It doesn't raise the post count directly, but if a thread's got a lot of stars, it'll usually draw more hits than other thread.

However, when *all* the threads have got loads of stars, it just makes the page look more yellow.

It's happened before. Somebody here likes to see stars. Small things and small minds...

After our last run in, I figured out that it is possible to be logged into this site under multiple names at once.. I tested it, and saw three user names that I created just to see if they would all show on the users logged in... and they did..

all from the same computer, all logged in at once..

That means the ip address identification proves nothing..

nothing..

I know you know about this already because of the multiple user names you have created in the past.. (i.e. Melonhead)

We all know that you didnt cop to being Melonhead until you were caught.. People can search for all posts by MelonHead and see for themselves..


I probably wouldn't have publicly said your name because I wasn't sure..


After reading your post, I do think you are *one* of the people who does it..


I know that multiple identitys cant be proved because I can create different ip addresses from my computer, but I do think there must be a log of people who have rated threads..

It really doesn't bother me, but yes, why don't you contact Dragon and see what he says..

Actually, I don't think it's Sam, (at least not on OTHER peoples' threads) but I do think everyone who posts here on a regular basis is entitled to know. Here's the thing, Joe. It's not the stars; it's a credibility issue. I do post a lot here, and I've got people that I consider to be friends here, and when Sam repeatedly goes out of his way to make me look like a dick, yeah, it's important to me. Should it be? Probably not. But it is.

Yeah, my last one didn't get dinged either (yet), which makes me think whoever is doing it was on vacation or something.

Since Anyone can come in here and rate threads, maybe a policy change where you need a certain post count in order to rate threads. Pick a number.........anything to make sure that someone understands the meaning of the star rating system.

.........ooh shit. I didnt mean to light a match between you guys. Im glad that all got resolved quickly, 'cause I dig both of you guys (and your work) alot. Regarding the single star on this post, It was me........ ....I gave myself that because this is a stinky post to put up..... and I appologize for that. .........but the star spamming, and cheap sniper shots bum me out.
I know that everyone is leaning towards just disregarding the stars thing altogether, with very good reason. But, even if no one else does, Im gonna keep on posting mine. Its my way of giving an extra pat on the back to the folks who write, mix, perform, or just entertain exceptionally well. I know that the sniper(s) out there who feel that they have to ruin a good set of stars for no reason other than childish payback will continue to do so...... but I dont care. Mine are honest and honorable.
We are all friends in here..... ....and Im happy to be a part of this. Either the stars have to be made accountable (long shot), or we have to believe that they are put up with honorable intentions. .....I know the latter probably wont happen, ....but im gonna keep on hopin' ......and postin'.

I choose which posts to listen to by the manner in whcih they're titled, and whose posted them... I usually pick 1 or 2 random ones everytime i come on (otherwise i'd live on this thing.....wait hold on....I do....)

Point is....I ignore the stars..... they dont mean much.

I have to admit that up until recently, I would definately use the stars to guage what I would listen to. Even now, if I come across a thread with a lot of posts and 5 stars, I will check it out, but the one star threads are too numerous to not listen to any of them. I hope Dragon can resolve the matter.
