Anyone heard/used Korg Microsynth?

Just wondering... Looks like it could be a cool addition to my setup - well, ok, i just like little joints like that. But seriously, anyone know much about it? How redundant (or not) it would be since I already own a MS2000r?

Looks like it's basically the same thing with a cheaper design. I can't imagine it being as good because of the lack of knobs... But for someone without an ms2000 it would probably be a good buy. They're really cheap!

I was playing with one at MusicLive (UK music kequipment exhibition) yesterday. Your use of the word "toy" just about sums it up ! The keyboard itself does not have full-sized keys which I didn't like. The preset sounds aren't that good and the interface is't very intuitive either.

I'm not sure what Korg are aiming at with this one but it doesn't seem to fit into any genre. It's almost as bad as the Roland SH32 !

Ok, first of all the Roland SH is a fine instrument. Second, I think that the new Micro by Korg is a great peice for the price. It has about the best vocoder $ for $ and the same engine as the MS2000 (with less polyphony).

Think of the keys as an added bonus for a very good desktop sound module. In other words use them to audition sounds, but plug in a MIDI controller for performance.

As for the presets, who uses presets? It's all about programming your own sounds.

I agree about the sh32. For the price, it's hard to find much fault with it. If you know anything about programming that is...

I know this is an old topic but I just wanted to add something about the Micro Korg that none of the advertisements or trade ad's ever seem to mention. The reason for the small key's is because the micro was designed to be portable. A great companion for a laptop daw or someone looking to work on synth parts on the go. The keyboard can run on six AA batteries! I'm very surprised Korg never saw this as a great selling point as it seems to be a very cool feature as well as something specific one may be looking for. At least it explains if not justify's the small keys.

Also, as far as presets, beside's the settings you can write yourself, Korg has a free download availble called the Micro editor. It enables you to see all the parameters at once on your pc monitor which you can edit and dump and save back into the Micro. You can also create, name and save a limitless number of presets on your PC to access anytime. There is also a Yahoo users group that not only share downloadable presets for the Micro, but since it runs on the MS 2000's engine you can upload Ms 2000 presets as well.
