Has anyone purchased from RecordingServices on ebay?

Any experience with them?

I'm particularly interested in a matched pair of Oktava MC012's. After reading about the "grab bag" at Guitar Center, I think I'd rather put a bit more money into the matched pair, much as for ensuring that each mic is decent on its own as for ensuring they work well together.

The Soundroom is ~$425. Recording Services is ~$300. I've emailed them requesting a little more clarification on who does their matching, and if they provide output charts for reference, and I'm awaiting a reply.

Has anyone here bought this or other items from them? I guess my main concern is whether they are reputable, and if I'll actually get a good pair of mics as advertised.

I just noticed there was another thread asking this exact same question a couple of weeks ago (found it by searching... lol, sometimes I forget to do that first.)

No one answered the question in that thread either, so I'm assuming that no one has bought a pair from them. I'm willing to be a guinea pig, but unfortunately my experience with studio mics is practically non-existant, so I'm not sure what use I would be in informing others of how good the mics are.

Perhaps if I do order from them, you guys could suggest some tests or checks to help me (well, us really) see if they are fairly similarly matched? I know I couldn't do a complete output chart, but suggesting some common listening tests or other simple checks might help.

I don't think you have to worry about a vendor on e-bay. They're there for the long term, not the quick buck.
If they're advertising these mics as a "matched pair" ask them if they provide frequency response curves for each mic.
Ask to see a set, then compare the 2 and see how well "matched" they really are.

I was actually thinking about getting a joemeek vc1qcs from them. i emailed them a few times with some general questions. They always responded, but with a weird attitude. They've been on ebay for awhile, so i doubt they're scam you, but i don't know. I just got a weird vibe from their email responses. I asked if they had a return policy, just in case the unit wasn't what i expected, and they responded with:

"What do you think this is GC"

I guess referring to guitar center. The funny thing is even guitar center has a return policy. I guess after that, i figured it they're going to treat customers like that, i would rather spend an extra $20 knowing someone cares about me buying it from them. That's all the experience i've had with them. I just figured that someone buying something worth $500, they would have a little better attitude. I don't want you think that they might be shady in any way, i'm just telling my experience. Take it how you want.

Taylor Johnson at the Sound Room was my answer to your question.

A few extra dollars to get the right set is worth it.

Here's a saying to remember:

"Nothing is more expensive that the product that won't work."

Oktava has a reputation of shitty quality control. A real crap shoot where the odds are that you WILL get a substandard mic.

A matched pair is a wonderful tool in your mic arsenal. You're going to pay extra for it... make sure you get it.

Taylor will see to it.

I just received an email from the owner of RecordingServices informing me that they do not supply any output charts or other testing information for reference or varification of their matching process.

For some reason, I feel that if I'm going to spend more money for a "matched pair" then I want to know that they are matched, both due to numerous recommendations and vouches for their experience in matching, and by the charts supplied for reference.

Looks like it's the Sound Room for me, with cardioid caps, and the comfort of knowing I'm getting what I paid for.
