I have a DJX-I and it has worked wonderfully, but I want to upgrade. I'm getting more serious, and I've been looking at the Yamaha Psr-9000 and the Yamaha CS1. I'm wondering which one of these 2 do you recommend, or if any other.

If you want to make proper dance music in this day and age get an arsenal of different keyboards. (Start maybe with a Korg MS2000) and get a live band. The whole DJ thing is dying man. Check out anything by Faithless or Groove Armada. These guys are gigging with full blown live bands now and you'll never bother going to DJ again after seeing these guys.

DVZON:
Nevermind people's jokes about hip hop/dj/dance music here. Post in the DJ/hip hop section, you will get more direct answers there. I am no expert in dance music, but I have heard really good stuff about Yamaha Motif for dance beats/sounds. Also, you probably need a drum machine of some kind. Fruity Loops is a cheap, yet decent beat generating program to start with. Or if you like sampling, ACID is the way to go in my opinion. Good luck AL |

I use the motif for trance music...along with other things...you can hear it in action on my site www.roostmusic.com
If you are really serious about it...i would save up and get a good VA synth: - Access Virus C (my fav) - Novation Supernova 2 - Clavia Nord lead 3 99% of all good trance music is primarily made with one of these three synths. Or a combo of the three ![]() The Korg Z1 is also a great non va synth for trance music. good luck! Cory |

If there's any place for questions about techno, this is it. Rappers don't know shit about techno... OK. Maybe a few of you do, but... It's just not the same. |

Good save, Subtractor, kinda... This b-boy is made of techno - back when only hood rats listened to kraftwerk and all the fly shit out of The D like Cybotron, etc... That was back in the early 80's. Kids at my (parochial, lily-white-save-three-black-kids) school HATED techno stuff. Kids in my neighborhood (hard to find a white person who wasn't a cop on patrol) lived on that shit. Kraftwerk stuff was the hottest shit to play at every rollerskating jam - and there were no white kids there, only future black MCs and b-boys. There's more of us than you may know - it's not the root that turned cats off, but the evolution. Yeah, I know black america could've continued to take an active part, but it never really caught on as a whole - 'cept, of course, in concentrated areas in the mid-west/north east... Don't get me started on electronic music and its' birthing culture in America. Sorry I got off thread, but I just hate hearing (reading) people say shit like that. And for the record, for those of us who do, it IS just the same (if not more)...but i do still love you, subby-wubby... Flo' Dolo

I suggested DVZON to post in the other forum just because people there don't make fun of sampling/djing/rapping/dancing and whatnot. Everywhere else on this site, you can often expect a sorry joke like "Learn to dance, go to a dance club...dance. Listen...imitate". ps. If I had a techno question, and I only had 2 choices: 1)a long hair, leather jacket hardcore rocker 2)a hip hop DJ with a mic .................i would go to the DJ... AL |

PFM, Kruder and Dorfmeister, Aphrodite, Roni size... Some of my favorites. Look for PFM's "western song". I love that tune.

Not really my thing, but Juju and Pollen are allegedly the Drum 'n' Bass thing.
Don't know about Jungle at all. How do Sly and Robbie fit into this whole thing anymore? foo |

Referring to "dance music" as a specific genre could only come from someone with a loose grip. Dance Music has had many incarnations over the years. In the end, "Dance Music" is as descriptive as saying "I want to play really, really cool music", what should I get.
Frankly, your should listen to the instruments and find the sounds you think fit your concept. So, remember the addage - "Ask a stupid question, get a stupid answer" Ta, ta neophytes. |
