hey all, I just bought a new dr-770 and love the sh*t out of it.I also have a (barf) yamaha rx8 and since i have been working with that one for the past 2 yrs I obviously need a way to get some of the patterns out of that one and into my new one. I have read the documentation concerning midi usage and it covers some but not all of my questions. (I am just now getting into midi stuff as is)
Is it possible to dump from one machine to another that doesnt have the same kits and other parameters? also I would like to do a sysex dump to my computer to backup all my work every once in a while, does anyone have any experience with that using roland products? what is a good program? wheeewwww that took alot of breath out of me. have at it, and thanx for your patience and time :-) |

I may be talking out my ass here...
But here goes. If you are running a sequencer on your computer, then saving the patterns shouldn't be a problem. In Cakewalk, there should already exist a Dump Request Macro for the Yamaha. You will have to manually dump the Sysex from the DR-770. As of a few months back when I was looking for instrument definitions for the 770, I had no luck. The definition of sounds between the Yamaha and the Roland may be a bit trickier. If you are using GM, then I would assume the sounds would be labeled according to that standard. When outside of GM you are going to need more info than I can provide. Aside from that, MIDI commands within your sequences should work properly for either drum machine. Oh yeah....and if anyone can explain this better please jump in....if using the Roland or Yamaha with a keyboard or software sequencer for that matter, keep in mind device numbers vary by manufacturer. |
