Poll: Band Name

Well, my band is getting better, we have some songs down, and we will probably playing out some time in the future. It has been brought to my attention that that band name I was planning to use "The Thorazine Shuffle Kings", is just two obscure of a joke. People who get it like it, but most people dont get it.

My favorite band name is one that me and firebird used for a while with our last band... "The Texas Blues Coalition" I came up with it, and therefore its my name. We never were big enough to get much of a following, so I'm not worried about people being pissed its not the same band. I really liked that name, because even before we used it anywhere, people always thought that they had heard of us...it just has that kind of ring to it. Its still registered on all the band name registry sites to me.


So, which should I go with?

If your music fits the name then the
The Texas Blues Coalition is alright.
If its registered and everything I don't see how you can lose.

In fact it is plausible to everyone, and puts a picture in your mind of a certain kind of music you will hear.
Like Ricky Ricardo once said,

Thanks, I like it too, but unfortuneatly most people just dont get it. If it were a punk band, I would consider that an advantage, but we are pretty much a straight blues band.

Anyway, I will probably go with TBC, looks like it has the vote, and all the people I have talked to IRL have seemed to agree.

Well, first of all, there have been several blues bands call "so and so and the shuffle kings", its a common blues name

Thorazine is a drug given to among other things the more violent of mental patients. Its slows them down and makes them easy to handle...One of the side effects is that they walk with kind of a shuffle, which is called, of course, the thorazine shuffle.

For instance, when I was a psych tech people would say things like...."Theres not much that can be done for George, he attacks another nurse they are gonna send him to the state hospital and he'll be doing the thorazine shuffle for the rest of his life"

Sounds callous, but ya gotta realize that a huge percentage of our patients would never get any better. You had to make jokes and disconnect yourself or else you couldnt do your job because you would get so depressed.

Thorazine is also refered to as Vitamin T, I would come onto the Adolescent unit in the mornings, see that I had another 16 hour shift with not enough staff to let me take the kids for any activities, and try to talk the nurses into giving the kids vitamin t cocktails(thorazine in orange juice), and sending them back to bed for the day. They never would, the kids would get bored half way through the day, and someone would wind up getting hurt or in restraints. Man I dont miss that job. When we actually helped someone, it was rewarding as hell, but those times were few.

How about the "Texas Thorazine Coalition" it's a nice combo of the two and sounds a little like a drug free campaign. Not that I'm in support of that

I vote you pick two names and start out with the second choice first. I have seen so many times that a virgin band hits the club scene...... gets some mild exposure, mixed reviews and tiny tiny following. Having done all that.. learned so much about public exposure, then renames the band and has a more popular following.

i also like blackburn's idea - "texas thorazine coalition"
or maybe the "texas thorazine kings"

those names stick out more than "the texas blues coalition" which just seems more normal.
